Based on the mandate anchored in the Swiss Constitution, the Federal Law on Spatial Planning calls for careful management of land in Switzerland. Spatial planners implement area- and environment-changing measures and steer spatial development in the direction intended by the federal law. They are innovative and creative experts who act according to ethical and ecological principles.
Graduates are highly sought after in the numerous regional development, traffic and environmental planning offices in the private sector and in public administration. Their range of activities is extremely large. Their jobs can include district, town and regional planning, building and real estate management, traffic optimization, environmental friendliness reports and communication strategies as well as management tasks in public transport. They take on responsible and demanding duties in leading positions in the private and public sectors, for example as consultants or project leaders. Many venture into independence, either by founding a company or working as a partner in an established office.
