The organisation of HSR is divided into the following areas:

  • Education
  • Continuing Education
  • Applied Research & Development (AR&D) and Services
  • Administration

HSR is financed by the cantons of St. Gallen, Schwyz and Glarus, based on a support agreement. Political representatives and prominent figures from the industry form the University Council, which develops HSR’s strategy. Four representatives from the canton of St.Gallen, two representatives from the canton of Schwyz and a representative from the canton of Glarus sit on the University Council. The industry representatives are also the presidents of the departmental committees. 

The University Management manages the university’s operations. This is made up of the Rector, the Vice Rector of AR&D and continuous education, the Head of Educational Services and the Administrative Director. Quality management, didactics/methodology and equality are part of the University Management’s remit. 

The nine departments of the Administration Directorate offer services for students and employees, and also some for external parties. This includes departments such as University Services, IT Services, the library and others.

HSR as an employer

HSR is a significant employer in the region. Around 600 employees work for HSR – many of them part time. Around 80 professors and 120 lecturers provide education and training. Around 230 research assistants work in the application-oriented research and development department and around 190 employees work in administration. HSR is training more than 10 apprentices.
