Our university is involved in education, training and applied research and development (AR&D). Founded in 1972 as the Interkantonales Technikum Rapperswil, the HSR Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil has become a strong brand over its 45 years of existence. 

HSR is all about practical teaching, innovative research, constant knowledge transfer with the industry – and bringing these fields together for the benefit of all.

The HSR Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil is a member of the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland (FHO). It is supported by the cantons of St. Gallen, Schwyz and Glarus. 

Our university has a regional base in Rapperswil and has links to partners in the national and international industry and higher education.

Eight attractive Bachelor’s degree courses

HSR Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil educates around 1,600 students in eight practical Bachelor's degree courses. The HSR Bachelor’s degree gives students a professional qualification in engineering, computer science, construction or planning. The ability to independently and flexibly apply their knowledge is a key skill of our graduates. 

Master’s degree course in eight areas of research

Bachelor’s degree graduates with especially good grades can complete the Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) course at HSR. This consecutive Master’s degree course, unique in Switzerland, is offered in collaboration with all Swiss universities of applied sciences. MSE students can choose from eight areas of research at HSR. This focus means they can actively specialise in engineering, computer science, construction or planning.

Continuing Education

HSR’s continuing education programme includes recognised and practical training courses in construction and planning, energy and environment, engineering and IT. The in-service, post-professional Master’s course (Master of Advanced Studies MAS) and certificate courses (Certificate of Advanced Studies CAS) are aimed at proven professionals who want to continue their education and boost their careers.

Applied Research & Development

HSR actively promotes the transfer of technology and knowledge in its applied research and development (AR&D). HSR’s 16 institutes and their services are successful market participants, making HSR a strong partner in business, industry and the public sector.
